Bruxism

Although bruxism which is colloquially known as teeth grinding is quite underestimated, it is a significant dental disease. Teeth grinding, depending on the pressure on the teeth, compresses the neurovascular bundle in the tooth root. Therefore, the pulp of the tooth is damaged. The tooth responds to this. This response is usually in the form of an inflammation of non-carious teeth. Without intervention, it can cause even tooth loss in the future. Another form of response is occlusal surface wear of the teeth.

As a treatment approach, night mouth splint, which is an apparatus worn on the teeth before bedtime, is applied to the patients who have the habit of teeth grinding. This mouth splint is proposed to be used for at least 6 months. Besides, depending on the severity of the disturbance, a muscle relaxant can be used.
